What : Fairfield University's 2010 Anne Drummey O'Callaghan Lecture is entitled, "Reservoirs of Hope and Resilience: Catholic Women's Witness," and it will be delivered by Kristin Heyer, Ph.D., associate professor of Religious Studies at Santa Clara University. The event is free and open to the public.

When: Wednesday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, Kelley Theatre.

Background: At a time when temptations to despair abound in church and the world, the witness of Catholic women offers a source of hope. This lecture highlights the experience of two distinct groups of women: those engaged in political advocacy, and women who struggle to cope with their migrant status. Thrust into the national spotlight by their role in the health care reform debate, the women religious of NETWORK Catholic Social Justice Lobby have consistently brought their prophetic vision to Capitol Hill and beyond. They model integrity and a tireless commitment to defend the vulnerable. Migrant women witness to female resilience in the face of formidable challenges and exploitation. Both groups of women serve us as beacons of Christian hope. The lecture honors Anne Drummey O'Callaghan, who devoted her life as catechist, advocate for the intellectually disabled, youth minister, and director of religious education to spreading the good news among children, teenagers, and adults in the Diocese of Bridgeport.
