Volleyball's Lauren Balmert named ESPN Academic All-District
Fairfield University junior Lauren Balmert (Cranberry Twp., Pa.) was named to the ESPN Academic All-District 1 Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this afternoon.
It is the second-straight year in which Balmert received the academic accolade from CoSIDA. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.3 GPA and be a contributing member of her squad to be nominated. Balmert has a 3.83 grade point average (GPA) and is an economics major with a double minor in math and physics. She was a 2009 MAAC All-Academic selection and has made the Fairfield University's Dean's List in each of the last four semesters.
On the court, Balmert has appeared in 25 matches and has collected 143 digs, 17 kills, and 18 assists, and 15 service aces this season. She, a 2009 Second Team All-MAAC selection, has accrued 2,217 assists in her time as a Stag, placing her fifth all-time at Fairfield.
Fairfield (10-16; 9-5 MAAC) travels to Manhattan on November 6 for a 3 p.m. match.
