To be nominated for the honor, a student-athlete must have a 3.3 GPA or higher and be a starter or important reserve participating in at least 50% of the team's games. The student-athlete also must complete one full calendar year at her current institution and reach sophomore athletic eligibility to be eligible.

Nieuwenhuis, a pyschology major earned All-Academic accolades for the second consecutive season, while Westenberg, an international studies major celebrates her third in as many years.

Senior Anne Nieuwenhuis (Leidschendam, Netherlands) had a successful final campaign finishing third on the team with 13 points on six goals and one assist. She had all five of the Stags' defensive saves for the season and was the leader in the America East Conference as well. Nieuwenhuis played a pivotal role in the majority of Fairfield's penalty corners as well as being the main post player on defensive corners.

Earlier this season Marit Westenberg (pictured; The Hague, Netherlands) achieved America East's Co-Player of the Week, All-America East Second Team, and NFHCA All-Mideast Region Second Team. The junior forward finished as the team's leader in goals (11), points (28), game winning goals with four, and finished second with six assists. Westenberg was the only unanimous pick out of 13 student-athletes in this year's All-Academic squad.
