Dr. Gregory Koutmos Gregory D. Koutmos, Ph.D., Fairfield University's Gerald M. Levin Professor of Finance, received an honorary degree from the prestigious Swedish School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland. The Hanken School of Economics, as it is known, is one of the oldest business schools in the Nordic region as well as a leading, internationally accredited university in the field of economics and business administration.

Dr. Koutmos, who teaches at Fairfield's Dolan School of Business, was unaware that he was nominated for the honor. "I was surprised, of course," said Dr. Koutmos, though he acknowledged, "I do have a long- term relationship with the Swedish School of Economics and Business. I have designed and delivered a seminar for their post-graduate students for the last few years."

He was one of four scholars awarded an honorary degree.

"This achievement reflects the very high regard with which Dr. Koutmos is held not only in our own country but around the world," said Norm Solomon, Ph. D., dean of the Dolan School of Business. "Clearly, this honor validates my own long held belief that Dr. Koutmos is one of the outstanding international scholars in the field of finance."

His involvement with the Hanken School of Economics includes participating as an advisor for doctoral dissertations and serving as an opponent during public defense. He has also done joint research with members of the school's faculty.

In addition to being published extensively in such journals as the European Journal of Finance and the Journal of International Money and Finance, Dr. Koutmos has presented at national and international conferences. He is an expert in financial markets volatility, equilibrium asset pricing models, fixed income securities and risk hedging.

At the Dolan School of Business, he teaches courses in futures and options markets; derivative securities; financial risk management, among many other topics.
