Fairfield and MAAC announce 2011 Girls In The Game program

Image: Girls in the Game Edison, NJ - The MAAC will be teaming up with Fairfield University to present its annual Girls in the Game program.

Girls in the Game is an exciting initiative that aims to involve young girls in grades 4-8 in athletics, specifically basketball, at an early age. For just $10, participants are given entrance to three events that make up the Girls in the Game program, including three women's basketball contests.

On Jan. 11, Head Coach Joe Frager and his Stags' squad will host a basketball clinic at Alumni Hall on Fairfield's campus. The clinic will run from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

The featured game will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16 as Fairfield takes on MAAC foe Manhattan College.

The 2011 Girls in the Game program will culminate during the semifinal round of the 2011 MAAC Women's Basketball Championships at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn. The two semifinals are scheduled for 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5.

"Fairfield University is excited to be hosting the MAAC Girls in the Game program this year," said Fairfield Senior Associate Athletics Director Alison Sexton. "The program provides girls in our local community an opportunity to meet our women's basketball players and have the opportunity to talk with them about what it takes to be a successful student and athlete. The young ladies also have the experience of being taught the game of basketball by our coaches and players, and then see those lessons in action by attending the Fairfield-Manhattan game, as well as the MAAC Championship semifinals, as the best-of-the-best in the MAAC compete for a berth to the NCAA Tournament. From our coaches, to our student-athletes, to those girls that participate, Girls in the Game is a positive experience for all those involved."

Tickets for Girls in the Game will be available at the door, or can be purchased by filling out and sending in the form located here .
