Bannon earns preseason All-America Honorable Mention

Is second Stag in as many seasons to be recognized

Sean Bannon Fairfield University senior Sean Bannon (Greenwich, Conn.) has received preseason All-America Honorable Mention from InsideLacrosse Magazine. Bannon joins current teammate Brent Adams (Norwalk, Conn.) as active Stags to have earned the national preseason honor during the course of their Fairfield career.

"Sean is deserving of this preseason recognition," said Stags third-year head coach Andy Copelan. "He has worked hard to improve as a player and we're pleased that he is being recognized on the national level for his work."

Bannon, who was voted a team captain by his teammates for the 2011 season, is the Stags primary long-stick midfielder. In that capacity he has helped lead Fairfield to 15 wins over the last two seasons, including a victory over then #3, and national runner-up, Notre Dame. Under his leadership the Fairfield defense has excelled, allowing just over eight goals per game a season ago. Bannon enters his final campaign with 58 career ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.

A graduate of Greenwich High School, Bannon was named First-Team All-NEILA and Second-Team All-ECAC following a junior campaign in which he finished with 32 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. He was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on March 29 after picking up 10 ground balls and causing three turnovers in ECAC wins over Ohio State and Hobart.

The epitome of the term scholar-athlete, Bannon is a Rhodes Scholarship candidate and will complete his coursework for degrees in finance and marketing this spring. He is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and has been named to the University's Dean's List five times in six semesters.

Bannon and the Stags begin the 2011 campaign on the road at Lafayette on February 19 and play their home opener versus Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. on March 1st. Fairfield begins ECAC Lacrosse League play on March 11, at 7 p.m., when they host Air Force.
