Fairfield University's Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions (GSEAP) announces two full-day professional workshops that offer six continuing education units each, Friday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Nov. 7. One workshop is from the "Cutting Edge Approaches: The Marriage & Family Therapy Series"; the other is a "Connections & Conversations: The Counselor Education Workshop Series for Human Services Professionals" workshop. "Families That Flourish: Facilitating Resilience in Clinical Practice," with Dr. Dorothy Becvar, internationally renowned author, teacher and clinician. The workshop will focus on the clinical application of research regarding the traits and patterns that characterize resilient families, including those with diverse structures, different ethnic backgrounds and non-traditional forms. Becvar is the author of a book by the same title as her lecture (Norton 2007) and is on the faculty of the school of social work at Saint Louis University.

• Connections & Conversations: The Counselor Education Workshop Series for Human Services Professionals Saturday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Dolan School of Business Dining Room - Cost: $90 (professional), $35 (student); 6 CEUs available

"Principles of Play Therapy," with Dr. Teresa Christensen, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado and Virginia and a LPC-Board Approved Supervisor in Louisiana. The seminar is designed for beginning and intermediate skill level participants who wish to increase their knowledge and clinical skills in the area of play therapy. Special attention is directed toward incorporating choice theory/reality therapy within the play therapy relationship. Specific techniques and interventions will be discussed and demonstrated with diverse children faced with a variety of issues. Video vignettes, role-plays, small group activities and discussion, and instructor demonstrations contribute to a dynamic and high-energy format.
