The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will perform an all-Franz Schubert program at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets for this Classic Impressions event are $35. There will be a pre-concert Art-to-Heart from 7-7:40 p.m. with journalist Robert Sherman.

The artists include baritone Christopher Maltman, pianist Inon Barnatan and violinist Liza Ferschtman.

Barnatan, a native of Tel Aviv, established an impressive international reputation, performing in some of the most important music centers worldwide. He was just named a 2009 winner of the Avery Fisher Career Grant.

In 2004 Barnatan played Schubert's B-flat sonata, a piece from the evening's program, in a project organized by Carnegie Hall and led by pianist Leon Fleisher. In that program, the last four Schubert sonatas were explored in detail and performed at Carnegie Hall. Of his performance of the sonata the New Yorker wrote: "Barnatan was naturally poetic; he has an instinctive understanding of Schubert's fragile, deep world ... he obtained a hypnotic tone from the piano ... he made sounds that might have won the approval of Schnabel himself."

Violinist Ferschtman, still in her twenties, is already recognized as one of the most significant artists of her generation. Her performances are known for their passionate and at the same time intellectual qualities.

In recent seasons Ferschtman has performed with all the major Dutch orchestras, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orchestra and Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra. She has worked with conductors such as Leonard Slatkin, Lev Markiz, Lawrence Renes, Jaap van Zweden, Frans Bruggen, Ed Spanjaard, Thierry Fisher, Mendi Rodan, Christoph von Dohnanyi and Shlomo Mintz.

In the 2005-6 season Ferschtman performed the complete Beethoven sonata cycle at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with pianist Barnatan, which was greeted with enormous critical acclaim, and broadcast on national radio. Her debut solo CD was received with great praise in several music magazines and newspapers. And in 2007, she and Barnatan worked together again on her second CD with works from Beethoven and Schubert.

British baritone Maltman is the winner of the Lieder Prize at the 1997 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. He has recorded "Schubert: The Complete Songs" for Hyperion as well as several other collections of Schubert lieder.

His concert engagements have included the Philharmonia Orchestra with von Dohnanyi, BBC Symphony Orchestra with John Adams, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment with Sir Roger Norrington, London Symphony Orchestra with Sir Simon Rattle, Concentus Musicus Vienna with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Dresden Staatskapelle with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Boston Symphony Orchestra with James Conlon, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra with Kurt Masur.

In addition to the "Sonata in B-flat major for Piano, D. 960," the program includes "Fantasy in C major for Violin and Piano, D. 934, Op. 159" and "Selected Lieder for Voice and Piano."
