Known by millions for his bestselling book and PBS television series of the same name, "The Ascent of Money," Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil. speaks on "Wall Street to Main Street" at Fairfield University's Open VISIONS Forum, Monday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The lecture, another in Fairfield's annual season of Arts & Minds events, is funded in part by the Patrick J. Waide, Jr. Fund for Ethics and Public Policy. Fairfield continues its Community Partnership with the Pequot Library in co-sponsoring the lecture. Tickets are $45.

Fairfield Professor Gavriel Rosenfeld of the Department of History will introduce Ferguson. Joining Dr. Philip Eliasoph onstage for a discussion after the lecture will be Professor Valeria Martinez, Dolan School of Business and Mr. R. Kelsey Biggers, President of the Board of Trustees, Pequot Library and Managing Director of K2 Advisors, a Stamford-based hedge fund group.

Ferguson, who studied at Cambridge University and was later appointed Professor of Political and Financial History at Oxford in 2000, is a prolific writer of internationally acclaimed works in business history and the political ramifications of decisions made during volatile periods in times of stress.

His first book, "Paper and Iron: Hamburg Business and German Politics in the Era of Inflation 1897-1927" was short-listed for the History Today of the Book of the Year award in 1995. Since that success, he has written critically acclaimed works on "The Pity of War: Explaining World War One," "The World's Banker," a history of the House of Rothschild and the ambitious book published in 2001 that discusses "The Cash Nexus: Money and Power in the Modern World 1700-2000."

Ferguson is Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History at Harvard University and William Ziegler Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at Jesus College, Oxford University and a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.

Much in demand as a commentator on contemporary politics and economics, Ferguson also writes reviews regularly for the British and American press. He is a contributing editor for the Financial Times and a regular contributor to Newsweek. In 2004 Time magazine named him one of the world's hundred most influential people.
