The Fairfield Stag is welcomed to campus

Image: Stag After years of cheering on the "Fairfield Stags," athletic teams, the "Stag" has arrived on the Fairfield University campus in the form of a two-ton bronze statue, with all its magnificent muscular stature.

It is a "first-class sculptural commission, which merits artistic, cultural, and academic embracement," says Philip Eliasoph, Ph.D., professor of art history and a Lifetime Honorary Member of the National Sculpture Society. It was created by Montana rancher turned sculptor, J. C. Dye, whose work, Eliasoph says, "is among the finest wildlife/western art being created in the nation today."

The Pep Band, cheerleaders, athletes and fans turned out to welcome the Stag to campus on homecoming/family weekend. It now has a place of honor in a raised platform in the center of campus.
