Fairfield University Commencement ceremonies to be carried on television, radio, and the web

Television coverage of Fairfield University's graduation ceremonies on Sunday, May 17, will be available to both Cablevision and AT&T U-verse customers in Connecticut. Cablevision will broadcast the 9:30 a.m. undergraduate ceremony and the 3:00 p.m. graduate ceremony on its educational access channel, Channel 78, while AT&T U-verse in northern Fairfield County will carry the ceremonies on Soundview Educational Access via Channel 99.

In addition, the ceremonies may be followed live on www.fairfield.edu or on WVOF Radio either at 88.5 FM or on www.wvof.org .

Speaking at the morning ceremony will be Dr. Peter Pronovost,, a native of Waterbury, Conn., and a 1987 graduate of Fairfield University who was awarded a MacArthur "genius" grant this year for creating a checklist system for critical care teams that has resulted in thousands of lives saved each year. His protocols have been adopted by several states and the United Kingdom and Spain. He is also working with the World Health Organization to set up such safety programs in entire countries.

Speaking at the 3 p.m. graduate ceremony will be Mathy Mezey, EdD, RN, FAAN, professor and director of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University College of Nursing, a leader in improving the policies and training of nurses to better meet the healthcare needs of a growing geriatric patient population, including those with Alzheimer's and dementia.

Receiving Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees will be Msgr. Ralph W. Beiting, founder of the Christian Appalachian Project, and Bryan A. Stevenson, director of the Equal Justice Initiative, based in Montgomery, Ala.
