Want to learn a language? Got a weekend? Fairfield University's Weekend Immersion Program makes it happen

Arrive at Fairfield University on Friday - leave on Sunday with newly improved language skills!

It's that easy says Dr. Joel Goldfield, academic director of the WIPs (Weekend Immersion Program). During the weekend of April 24-26, beginning speakers of Arabic and advanced beginners and intermediate-level speakers of Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian and Spanish can leap to a new level of oral proficiency with the good humor and energy of the Rassias Method®. Deadline for registration has been slightly extended from April 10.

The WIP is given in partnership with University College at Fairfield University and the Rassias Center for World Languages and Cultures at Dartmouth College. The dynamic method used in the program was developed in the 1960s for Peace Corps volunteers by Professor John Rassias, president of the Rassias Center.

The aim of the Rassias Method is to make the student feel comfortable and natural with the language in as short a time as possible. This is achieved through a combination of dramatic techniques, rhythmic drills and energetic reinforcement strategies that make learning an engaging experience while significantly reducing the learner's self-consciousness and fear of making mistakes.

Tuition is $535 and includes working lunches with the staff. A preliminary phone interview is required and will be conducted prior to arrival for the WIP.
