Harvard Divinity School professor, Fr. Francis X. Clooney, S.J., to speak on "Christian Faith in Light of Hinduism" March 25

Fr. Francis X. Clooney, S.J., Parkman Professor of Divinity and Professor of Comparative Theology at the Harvard Divinity School, will present a lecture entitled "Christian Faith in Light of Hinduism" on Wednesday, March 25 at 8:00 p.m. in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room.

Fr. Clooney's lecture is based on his areas of scholarship which include theological commentarial writings in the Sanskrit and Tamil traditions of Hindu India, along with the developing field of comparative theology, which focuses on theological learning developed through the study of religious traditions other than one's own.

Prior to joining the Harvard Divinity School in 2005, Fr. Clooney taught at Boston College. He has written many articles and books about both the Christian and Hindu traditions. His book, Divine Mother , Blessed Mother: Hindu Goddesses and the Virgin Mary (Oxford University Press, 2005) received the 2005 Alpha Sigma Nu Book Award for Excellence in Theology. Other notable works include Hindu God , Christian God (Oxford University Press, 2001) and The Truth, the Way, the Life: Christian Commentary on the Three Holy Mantras of the Srivaisnava Hindus (Peeters Publishing, 2008).

The College of Arts and Sciences Board of Advisors are sponsoring this initiative of the Department of Religious Studies. Admission to the lecture is free and the public is welcome to attend.
