Mayor Cory Booker speaks at Fairfield University with Open VISIONS Forum February 18


What

Cory Booker, mayor of Newark, will speak at Fairfield University with the Open VISIONS Forum series. Mayor Booker's topic is Bridging the Divide: The Strengths and Challenges of Diversity in America . Booker attended President Obama's inauguration in January and will also talk about the election and the President. The event is a Collegial Partnership between Open VISIONS Forum and the Office of Student Diversity Program.

Mayor Booker was elected with a clear mandate for change and his administration has undertaken a bold vision for urban transformation. Under his leadership, the City of Newark has committed to a $40 million transformation of the City's parks and playgrounds through a groundbreaking public/private partnership. His administration has also doubled affordable housing production; he has been instrumental in setting up model programs for returning ex-offenders and has set up innovative programs dealing with at risk youth and empowering fathers to thrive in meeting their obligations. His commitment to education is strong and Mayor Booker is a member of numerous boards and advisory committees including Democrats for Education Reform, Columbia University Teachers' College Board of trustees and the Black Alliance for Educational Options.
