Image: Ira Glass Fans of "This American Life" religiously tune their radios to NPR every weekend to hear what new offbeat three-act theme host Ira Glass has in store for them. Millions of listeners know they can count on the show being unlike any other. On Thursday, April 23, this 2008 Peabody Award winning show will be live in HD at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts. Broadcast live from New York, the visual brings a new dimension to this popular program. As Glass describes it, "We're going to capture the whole thing with a bunch of HD cameras, and send it live to movie theatres all over the country" - and to the Quick Center at 8:00 p.m. WSHU Public Radio is the official sponsor in this area.

The night before the broadcast, on April 22, Glass will appear on The Colbert Report, to chat with Stephen Colbert about the broadcast.

Glass will host an actual two-hour episode of the radio program, performed onstage by some of the show's favorite contributors. Dan Savage, Starlee Kine and Mike Birbiglia will tell stories. David Rakoff and Dave Hill will conduct a 'special investigation.' Chris Ware will introduce a new cartoon, and there will be additional visuals by Arthur Jones and a very special appearance by Joss Whedon, creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer!"

On April 1, the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications announced the 2008 Peabody Awards and honored "This American Life: The Giant Pool of Money," produced by Public Radio International/NPR and Chicago Public Radio in collaboration with Planet Money. The committee issued the following statement about the show: "The first-ever collaboration of "This American Life" and NPR's news division, this report was impressive for the arresting clarity of its explanation of the financial crisis we're in, and even more so for its having aired so early - May 2008."
