Fairfield University annual student film festival, Cinefest Fairfield, to be held on campus May 1

Fairfield University's student film festival, Cinefest, which has attracted a popular following at the Fairfield Community Theater in downtown Fairfield for the last four years, is moving on campus to the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The 5th annual festival, with a "Film Noir" theme, will be held in the Quick Center for the Arts on Friday, May 1, beginning with a "pre-show" at 6 p.m. Student films will be shown in the theater beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Cinefest is presented by the University's New Media: Film, Television, and Radio program and showcases the work of New Media majors whose work has been selected in a juried competition. The change of venue came about because students are now filming in high definition and the Quick Center is now equipped with an HD projector.

Hosting the awards ceremony will be senior Andrew Simone and junior Frank Romano, who together developed the show, "Let's Be Frank," on the student-run Ham Channel that led to a segment on ESPN.com. They will present awards in the categories of Best Cinematography, Best Writing, Best Editing, Best Directing, and the Audience Choice Award.

In the "pre-show" event, reminiscent of the Oscars, filmmakers will walk the red carpet and be interviewed as they enter the lobby of the Quick Center. This pre-show event and the program itself will be broadcast to television screens around campus via the satellite uplink truck. Entertainment by a jazz band trio and improvisational troop will perform intermittently with the films.
