What: Fairfield University's 8th Annual Anne Drummey O'Callaghan Lecture - A talk about Catholic women in public life - in the voting booth, at work, in civic discourse.

Background : Nancy Dallavalle, Ph. D., associate professor and chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Fairfield University will deliver the lecture, entitled, "Icons and Integrity: Catholic Women in the Church and in the Public Square."
Dallavalle said "Our picture of 'Catholic woman' is a picture of private prayer or domestic life - an older woman saying the rosary, or a mom taking her kids to CCD. But what does it mean to think of 'being Catholic' as a public commitment, in a world shaped by politics, consumerism, and a 24/7 media culture - particularly for women?
Is it possible, in an election year that has featured much speculation about 'the women's vote' and 'the Catholic vote,' that the quiet but powerful story of Catholic women may prove decisive?"
Responding to Professor Dallavalle will be Fairfield University graduate Elizabeth Burns '05, who teaches at Lauralton Hall, a Catholic high school for girls in Milford.
