Lifelong Learning continues with Summer Institute and a bonus at University College at Fairfield University

University College at Fairfield University roars into summer with a stimulating one-week intensive three-course series that meets Monday, June 2 through Friday, June 6 under the banner of the Institute for Lifelong Learning.

The 2008 Summer Institute explores three intriguing areas of study that tap into the values and concerns of American life as reflected in popular lyrics throughout recent history, the psychology of tragedy through the ages and the science behind the effect of human behavior on animals' physiology. A full list of offerings for each course follows.

The Institute for Lifelong Learning is open to all retired and semi-retired people over age 55. The cost of the Summer Institute is $196 and includes a festive dinner on Thursday evening, June 5. Members may bring guests to the dinner for an additional $38 each. Members are also encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch each day or light lunches can be purchased at Jazzman's Café on campus. Coffee, tea and dessert will be served free of charge during each luncheon break. Please phone 203-254-4307 for more information or visit the website at www.fairfield/edu/summercamps to register for the weeklong intensive Summer Institute.

Institute For Lifelong Learning - Summer 2008

Monday-Friday, June 2-6, 2008

In addition, the enormously popular One Day University immediately precedes the Summer Institute series on Sunday, June 1 at the Quick Center for the Arts with a day of learning opportunities that includes a special bonus.

The two programs are offered independently, but for those eligible to study with the Institute of Lifelong Learning and who wish take full advantage of an unusually wide range of thought-provoking topics, a 15% discount will be applied to the June 1 One Day University event fee of $219 for registrants of both programs .

The Sunday event includes as a bonus, "Gershwin and "Rhapsody in Blue'" with Fairfield University's Academic Vice President Orin Grossman. Professor Grossman gives a slightly abbreviated reprise of his highly rated lecture and piano recital presented earlier in the season to a standing ovation. Additionally, there are four fascinating lectures: on China and the United States; a look at two disparate American groups in the 1930s and how they joined together to fight the Nazi threat to America and the indigenous White Supremacist movement; the crisis of celebrity politics; and the genius of Alfred Hitchcock. The faculty includes professors from Fairfield, Tufts, Yale and Columbia universities.

To register for this special One Day University day, visit the website at or call 1-800-811-8821. To receive the 15% discount, indicate your affiliation with the Institute for Lifelong Learning by entering this code, ILL, in the appropriate box.
