Fairfield University remains among the top of the "Best Universities - Master's" in the North in U.S. News & World Report's 2009 edition

U.S. News & World Report's 2009 edition of America's Best Colleges, has placed Fairfield University tied for the number four spot among the Best Universities-Master's in the North. This is the 18th year in a row that Fairfield has ranked among the top four in this category.

Last year Fairfield was tied for the number two spot with Loyola and Providence. The overall score for Fairfield was 85 this year, as compared to 86 last year, while the score went up to 87 for Loyola and stayed the same for Providence. This year, Fairfield also appears in U.S. News & World Report's "Great Schools, Great Prices" listing.

Academic Vice President Orin Grossman said while the consistency of Fairfield University to remain among the top ranked schools for so many years certainly supports that Fairfield is a solid academic institution, he always regrets that some of the very important qualities that students and alumni most appreciate are simply not part of the formula or easily measured. "Guide books should just be a starting off point for prospective students and their parents," he advised. "While they give a general idea of the strength of an institution, important qualities such as the integration of living and learning on campus, the institutional support for study abroad and internships, students' access to a dedicated and scholarly faculty, and an increasingly diverse community that is enriching to all, can only be known through visiting campuses and asking questions."
