Second City comes to Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts

The Second City Touring Company returns to the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University with its hilarious new show, "One Nation, Under Blog" on Friday, April 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and $30.

Second City is legendary for its unbridled humor, dazzling originality and daring execution. The growing list of actors and comedians that have worked with the company since a group of students from the University of Chicago coalesced in 1959, reads like a "Who's Who" of comedy.

From humble and hilarious beginnings these players, among them Alan Arkin, Mike Nichols, Elaine May, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray and scores of others shaped a new order of comedy. The comedic revolution they heralded can be seen in the work of recent Second City alumni like Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert with their hit shows, "30 Rock" and "The Colbert Report." Former Steve Carell, Amy Sedaris, Mike Myers and Rachel Dratch are also former members whose lasting impact on current comedy will serve as a springboard for the next generation.

In "One Nation, Under Blog," a cast of six quick-witted young men and women banter through vintage and newly-written Second City sketches based on topical subjects from politics to the latest fads with a smattering of audience-prompted improv. Their humor will be familiar to SNL and SCTV fans since many of the regulars on those shows got their start with The Second City Touring Company. The newest touring show from The Second City mines comedic gold from the days headlines and the worlds of politics, entertainment and media.

This Company has been touring for the better part of a year with "One Nation." They have traveled throughout the U.S. and played to packed houses everywhere.

With recent headlines chronicling one problem after another, there may be many who feel overdue for laughs. If that is the case, you will want to make plans to see this wildly funny group and if you need a bonus, there's always the possibility of seeing the next comic phenomenon live onstage.
