Singer-Songwriter Dar Williams at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts November 2

Dar Williams is an idealist with a strong system of values…and she is a consummate singer-songwriter. She will appear at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts on Friday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m.

This committed activist with a crystal voice creates a special bond with every audience she captivates by her very personal and political songs. The lyrics are rich with storytelling and brimming with intimate, honest and whimsical travails and triumphs that resonate with the human condition and hold the audience rapt.

Williams is one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of her generation and has been engaging audiences with her musical artistry since the early 1990s when she rose to the national spotlight. Playing acoustic guitar with her longtime backup band, she charms with her humor and empathic nature performing renditions of her many favorite songs, among them "The Babysitter's Here," "As Cool As I Am" and the gorgeous "February."

Williams' songs illustrate some of the many social and environmental issues that she holds dear to her heart. "As much as I love to control what I write and perform, I know my better self is not an intentional construction," Williams explains. "It's a spontaneous creation that I stumble across while I try to tell the truth."
