Fairfield University students plan 19th Annual Hunger Cleanup | Press Releases

On Saturday, March 31, Fairfield University students will be taking part in their 19th Annual Hunger Cleanup, a one-day service a-thon where students volunteer at area non-profit agencies in the greater Bridgeport area and get friends and families to sponsor them. Hunger Cleanup is a project of the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness.

This event, which is the largest one-day service project at Fairfield, is rich in tradition. Over the past 19 years, Fairfield has won seven gold medals and one silver medal for best Hunger Cleanup out of competing schools in the country, and has been honored twice for drawing the most participants. Last year Fairfield was first in the nation with the number of volunteers (375) and fourth in fundraising ($7,150).

This year, the Fairfield Hunger Cleanup Board has set high goals for the event. They are aiming to recruit over 400 people and to raise $10,000. The Board is working to get students, faculty, alumni, and community members involved. The money students raise through fundraisers and sponsorships will go to local, national and international hunger relief organizations.

Volunteers for Hunger Cleanup will be stationed at their worksites from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine. All are welcome to help, either through volunteering or sending donations. Food or monetary donations received in March or April 2007 are eligible to be matched, dollar for dollar, by the Feinstein Foundation.
