Fairfield University resumes events centering on "Migration and the Arts" | Press Releases

The Center for Faith and Public Life at Fairfield University is sponsoring "Migration and the Arts" - a series of events focusing on migration through artistic venues. The series resumes on Thursday, March 29 with a lecture, co-sponsored with the Department of Women's Studies and the English Department, on "Unexpected Migration Routes - From the Americas to Japan," delivered by Karen Tei Yamashita of the University of Southern California. This lecture will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room. All series events are open to the public and admission is free.

On Monday, April 2, "Bella," the Toronto International Film Festival's winner of the 2007 "Peoples Choice Award," will be screened at 6 p.m. at the Dimenna-Nyselius Library, multi-media room. This is Mexican director Alejandro Monteverde's feature film debut and the initial film produced by Metanoia Films. Shot in New York City, it tells a heartwarming story of two strangers who connect as friends as a result of an impetuous action that threatens everything each holds dear; how their shared experience affects family and what they discover about the capacity for love in the face of the unexpected.

And, the final event in the series, also co-sponsored by the Department of Women's Studies, is a lecture on "Migration and Private Wrongs: Women and Children at the Border" delivered by Alison Brysk of the University of California, Irvine. It will be held on Tuesday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room.
