Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts announces its 2007-08 Young Audience Sunday Series and ArtsBound Outreach season | Press Releases

Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts announces its 2007-08 Young Audience Sunday Series and ArtsBound Outreach school day series, a lineup of music, theater, stories and fun for the whole family.

All performances take place in the Quick Center's Kelley Theatre, unless otherwise noted. Tickets for the Young Audience Sunday Series performances are $15 for adults, $12 for children, with package discounts available. Birthday party packages are also available, unless otherwise noted. Tickets to the ArtsBound Outreach school day series performances, which take place on weekdays and are geared to school groups, are $7.

Leo Lionni's "Swimmy," "Frederick," "Inch by Inch"

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia
Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 and 3 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. and noon ArtsBound Outreach Series
(Birthday Parties not available for this event) Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's latest production is drawn from Leo Lionni's exquisitely crafted Caldecott Honor books, "Swimmy," "Inch by Inch" and "Frederick." Swimmy is a tiny fish who uses ingenuity to fend off danger. Frederick, a poetic mouse, makes everyday life an artful experience. Inch by Inch is a lovable inchworm who shares his facility for measuring absolutely everything. All these stories provide wonderful scope for translation to puppet theatre through the gentle storytelling style that has earned international acclaim for Mermaid Theatre.

(Birthday Parties not available for this event) A hit on Broadway, "A Year with Frog and Toad" was nominated for 3 Tony Awards®-including Best Musical. Now, for the first time, an all-new touring production brings Arnold Lobel's beloved characters to life in a hop from page to stage in Robert and Willie Reale's musical. The production remains true to the spirit of the original stories and follows two good friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad, through four fun-filled seasons.

The classic book, beloved by generations, comes to life as a new musical. When 12-year-old orphan Anne Shirley arrives at her new home at Green Gables, she turns the entire community upside-down with her indomitable scope of imagination. An endearing story about love, family and home.

Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Company stars pneumatic wizard Fred Garbo and Brazilian ballerina Daielma Santos. This exquisite duo has performed in the most prestigious venues and television programs around the world, transcending barriers of age and language in a seamless program. that includes physical comedy, dance, juggling, and most importantly, their own creative inventions that INFLATE!

A dramatic hybrid of Melville's masterpiece, adapted to draw a parallel between King Lear and Captain Ahab. A troupe of actors abandons its rehearsal of "King Lear" to recreate another about a similar unforgiving, vengeance-obsessed man, Captain Ahab.

Inspired by the classic book, author (and World War I lieutenant) Hugh Lofting reaches out to his son during wartime by writing a magical story about a kind-hearted doctor who can talk to the animals. When Doctor John Doolittle learns that a mysterious disease is afflicting the monkeys of Africa, he sets off on a musical adventure to come to the animals' aid.
