The Fairfield University Glee Club joins The Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut (MCC) and The Fairfield County Children's Choir (FCCC) in an afternoon concert celebrating "Three Generations of Song II" featuring a varied musical program on Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on the campus of Fairfield University.

Involving choristers of all ages, the three outstanding choirs come together in the spotlight to entice and reward a multigenerational audience with a wide selection of music ranging from Mozart to Billy Joel to Vivaldi to the haunting strains of a traditional Swahili song.

The program features Fairfield University's Glee Club and Chamber Singers, under the artistic direction and baton of the dynamic Carole Ann Maxwell, DSM. In addition to being noted for her immense energy, Dr. Maxwell is highly respected for her consummate professionalism and complete dedication to the choral arts. Dr. Maxwell's unique style and leadership have produced critical acclaim throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Her mission, to inspire and challenge each singer's musical potential, has been so successful that, in 1984, alumni of the Fairfield University Chamber Singers continued their musical association with Dr. Maxwell by together founding The Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut. During the last two decades, the choir, which has grown to over 100 auditioned members, has performed the world's great masterpieces and established itself as one of the pre-eminent choral ensembles in New England.

Jon Noyes, an adjunct professor of music at Fairfield University is also a music educator in the Fairfield County Public Schools as well as music director and founder of the FCCC. In his work with children in grades K-5, he saw a chance, by forming the choir, to provide children with the opportunity to participate in a musical experience that is challenging, rewarding and enjoyable.

Now in their 12th season, the community-based choral program comprises over 200 children from grades 4-12. The group is divided into four choirs that receive instruction in vocal technique, choral technique, music literacy and the appreciation of music through the practice and performance of great choral repertoire.

"Three Generations of Song II" provides three passionate choral ensembles the platform to merge and stimulate others with the enthusiasm and artistry each musician brings to performance. With a mutually strong commitment in the encouragement of more participation in and audience for choral music, Dr. Maxwell and Mr. Noyes have teamed up for this concert in agreement that, "singing and music are powerful sources of inspiration in our life-long search for meaning."
