Pulsing rock music blends with timelessly beautiful text when "Romeo and Juliet" comes to Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Wednesday, March 22, at 10 a.m. Part of the Quick Center's ArtsBound Schoolday Series, the performance is sponsored in part by the Greater Bridgeport Foundation, The Herman Goldman Foundation, and the Harry Chapin Foundation.
This production, the biggest production ever mounted by Theatreworks/USA, is geared toward middle and high school groups.
This critically acclaimed, 90-minute version of the classic story of teenage love and family conflict moves Shakespeare's classic language to the streets of a futuristic, crumbling urban wasteland called Verona. Here, the star-crossed lovers of two warring clans meet and dare to love amid external violence and family hatred. Eleven actors star in the updated story that features a rock incidental score.
Founded in 1961, Theatreworks/USA is one of the nation's foremost professional theaters for family audiences. The company aims to create imaginative, sophisticated shows that are also educational and thought provoking.
