Popular children's book character "Alexander" comes to life at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts

Quick Center for the Arts on Sunday, March 19, at 1 and 3 p.m. Two additional performances, part of the Quick Center's ArtsBound Schoolday Series, will take place on Monday, March 20, at 10 a.m. and noon. The ArtsBound program is sponsored in part by the Greater Bridgeport Foundation, The Herman Goldman Foundation, and the Harry Chapin Foundation.

Based on the popular book series by Judith Viorst, the play is a part of the Washington, D.C.-based Kennedy Center IMAGINATION CELEBRATION on Tour. The show is suitable for children in grades 1 through 5.

In this story, the loveable Alexander faces one of the biggest challenges of his young life: His father is starting a new job in a city that's, as Alexander sees it, "a thousand miles away." While everyone is packing, Alexander decides he's staying right where he is with his best friend, his tree house, his soccer team and everything else that makes him feel at home.

Adapted by Viorst and composer Shelly Markham, the program includes catchy songs and a message about change, opportunity and the value of family.

Now in its 13th season, the Kennedy Center's IMAGINATION CELEBRATION on Tour program brings the professionalism and talent associated with the national center for the performing arts to families around the country.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets for the ArtsBound performances, which are geared to school groups, are $7. For tickets, call (203) 254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396. For more information, visit www.quickcenter.com.
