Leonard Bernstein's daughter to introduce "West Side Story" at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts

"West Side Story," the Oscar-winning retelling of  "Romeo and Juliet" amid gangs in New York, will be screened on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. as part of the Leonard Bernstein Festival at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. At 2 p.m., Jamie Bernstein, daughter of the late Leonard Bernstein, who composed the film's score, will talk about the musical's creation, how her father constructed its unforgettable music and why the story remains forever contemporary.

Based on a concept by Jerome Robbins with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, "West Side Story" won 11 Oscars and remains one of the best-loved films of all time. Directed by Robbins and Robert Wise, who went on to direct "The Sound of Music" four years later, the film stars Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer and Rita Moreno and features such classic songs as "Maria," "Tonight" and "Somewhere (There's A Place for Us)."

Bernstein is a writer and broadcaster, who has worked to preserve her father's legacy since his death in 1990. To that end, she hosted the New York Philharmonic's live national radio broadcasts and other programs and narrated concerts with orchestras around the United States and in China and Cuba.

Tickets are $7. For tickets, call the Quick Center box office at (203) 254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396. For more information, visit www.quickcenter.com.
