Awards rate teams in top ten percent for sport

Eight Fairfield University varsity athletic teams were cited for academic achievement by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as part of the organization's annual Academic Progress Rate report.

The men's cross country, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's rowing, women's soccer, and women's swimming and diving teams received the recognition when the NCAA announced its annual APR report. All Fairfield University teams received a positive APR, but the aforementioned eight teams ranked in the top 10 percent of their sport.

"I am very pleased with the recognition received by all of our student athletes," Director of Athletics Gene Doris said. "Our student-athletes work hard to achieve success both on and off the field, and our APR shows that they have been very successful in achieving their academic goals."

The APR awards two points per semester to student-athletes who meet academic eligibility standards and remain enrolled at an institution. The team's APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible.
