Living Theology Series at Fairfield University announced for fall semester

The Living Theology Series, introduced last spring at Fairfield University by the Center for Catholic Studies, will continue this fall, beginning with a panel presentation on "Forty Years After Vatican II" on Sept. 24, at the Charles F. Dolan School of Business Dining Room. The Living Theology Series, presented by the Center for Catholic Studies at Fairfield, is free and open to the public and features three sessions a semester that take place on Saturday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to noon on the Fairfield campus.

"Forty Years After Vatican II" will feature Dr. Paul F. Lakeland, the Aloysius P. Kelley, S.J. Professor in Catholic Studies, who will discuss, "How Has Vatican II Been Received?" He will be joined by Elena Procario Foley, associate professor of religious studies and the Brother John G. Driscoll Professor of Jewish-Catholic Studies at Iona College, discussing "Vatican II, Catholics and Jews;" and Fr. John P. Baran, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Fairfield, who will present "Vatican II in the Pews."

The two other sessions for this semester are: "Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up? Biblical Studies Meets the Quest for the Historical Jesus," to be presented on Saturday, Oct. 15, by Dr. Hugh M. Humphrey, professor of religious studies at Fairfield; and "Recent Developments in Catholic Ethical Teaching," on Saturday, Nov. 12, by Dr. Frank T. Hannafey, S.J., associate professor of religious studies at Fairfield. These two sessions will be held in the School of Nursing Auditorium.

The first series in Living Theology began last spring and attracted participants from throughout Fairfield County. The sessions are intended to help local Catholics and others learn about the latest thinking in the church and develop their own thoughts on these important topics.
