Gallery director offers insights on Egyptian Art at the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery at Fairfield University

Diana Mille, Ph.D., director of the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery at Fairfield University, will present a lecture on Egyptian art and architecture on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 12:30 p.m. The one-hour talk, the first of four lectures in the 2005 Director's Choice series "History of Art in the Western World," takes place in the gallery located in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

In the first slide lecture, Dr. Mille will reconsider the Pre-Dynastic and Old Kingdom periods in Egyptian art and architecture. The other three Director's Choice lectures will focus on art in the Classical world, Medieval art and the early Renaissance.

Those attending the first lecture can also view the gallery's current exhibit, "Indian Paintings of the New Millennium: Collection of Sunanda and Umesh Gaur," a rare peek at some of the most intriguing artwork being produced in India. On display from Saturday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Dec. 4, the exhibit includes a selection of modern and contemporary paintings from post-Independence India.

Admission to the Director's Choice lecture is $5. Participants may bring a brown bag lunch. For more information, call (203) 254-4000, ext. 2969.
