General Electric Chairman and CEO Jeffrey R. Immelt to deliver Dolan Lecture at Fairfield University

The Charles F. Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University will present Jeffrey R. Immelt, the chairman and chief executive officer of Fairfield-based General Electric Company, for a lecture on "Growth and Leadership" on Wednesday, November 2, at 8 p.m.  The Charles F. Dolan Lecture, which will take place at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.

Image: Jeffrey Immelt Jeffrey R. Immelt, 49, is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of General Electric Company. Immelt, the ninth chairman in GE's 126-year history, was appointed to this post on September 7, 2001. GE is a $170 billion diversified technology, media and financial services company with products and services ranging from aircraft engines, power generation, water processing and security technology to medical imaging, business and consumer financing, media content and advanced materials. GE serves customers in more than 100 countries and employs more than 300,000 people worldwide.

Previously, Immelt served as president and chairman-elect of GE from November 2000, when GE's Board of Directors selected him to succeed John F. Welch. From 1997 to 2000, Immelt had been president and CEO of GE Medical Systems, which is today a $12 billion leader in the healthcare industry. Immelt began his GE career in 1982. Over the last 22 years, he has held a series of global leadership roles in GE's Plastics, Appliance, and Medical businesses. He became an officer of GE in 1989, and joined the GE Capital Board in 1997.

Immelt serves on the board of two non-profit organizations: Catalyst, devoted to advancing women in business; and Robin Hood, focused on addressing poverty in New York City. Immelt was named the Financial Times "Man of the Year" for 2003.

He holds a B.A. in applied mathematics from Dartmouth College (1978) and an M.B.A. from Harvard University (1982). He and his wife, Andrea, have one daughter.

The Charles F. Dolan Lecture series, featuring highly accomplished, visionary and internationally recognized business leaders, was inaugurated in 2001 with Jack Welch, then-chairman and chief executive of General Electric. C. Michael Armstrong, then chairman and chief executive of AT&T; Alan "Ace" Greenberg, chairman of the Executive Committee of The Bear Stearns Companies Inc.; Karen Katen, then president of Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals and executive vice president of Pfizer Inc.; and Anne Mulcahy, chairman and CEO of Xerox Corp., have all been featured speakers in the series.
