Summer 2005 calendar of events

Auditions

Tuesday, June 7 at 7 p.m.
The Summer Festival Chorus , a 12-year-old program of Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, will hold auditions for its 2005 program, "Summer Romance," in the Kelley Auditorium. Experienced choral singers are invited to audition and should be prepared to sing vocal warm-ups and exercises. Auditions are not required for previous participants. Rehearsals will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from Tuesday, June 21, through Thursday, July 28.

Art

Sunday, June 12 through Saturday, July 30
The Women's Caucus for Art , a non-profit national organization that works to win parity in the valuation of works by women, offers "Night and Day" at the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery. The caucus gives women an opportunity to produce, exhibit and document their work. The juried exhibition, which will include some local artists, opens with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on June 12. Admission is free. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call (203) 254-4010, ext. 2969.

Concert

Saturday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.
The popular Summer Festival Chorus of Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts takes the stage for its 2005 program, "Summer Romance," in the Kelley Auditorium. The 12th annual concert features music by John Lennon, Daniel Pinkham, Johannes Brahms, Leonard Bernstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Special guest artists are Joe Utterback, a popular jazz performer and conductor, and accompanist Beth Palmer. Dr. Carole Ann Maxwell, director of Choral and Liturgical Music at Fairfield University, will conduct. Tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens and children.

Theater

Thursday, July 28 through Saturday, August 13
Shakespeare Ventures, a professional theater company based on the campus of Fairfield University, presents "Macbeth," the Bard's timeless tale of ambition, temptation and seduction, at the PepsiCo Theatre. Directed by Lynne Porter, director of the Theatre Program at Fairfield University, the production features actors from across the region. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. on July 28, 29 and 30 and August 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13. There will be 2 p.m. matinees on July 31 and August 7. Tickets are $20, $15 for students/seniors.

Missoula

The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts presents six performances of the Children's Summer Theatre Workshops with Missoula Children's Theatre. The list of performances is as follows:

All performances, starring the skilled young students in this acclaimed national program, will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Quick Center's Kelley Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children, with discounts for groups and subscriptions available. No children under the age of two will be admitted to help make sure the children on stage can give their full attention to their performances.
