Fairfield University to host conference on Focusing on Learning Outcomes: Technology, Pedagogy & Course Redesign V

The fifth annual summer conference designed to engage faculty in a dialogue about the educational uses of technology will take place in the Charles F. Dolan School of Business on the Fairfield University campus June 1-3. Sponsored by Fairfield University's Center for Academic Excellence, the conference's goal is to better understand how teaching methods affect student learning.

The two keynote speakers for the event are Dr. Randy Bass, Executive Director of CNDLS (Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship) and Assistant Provost for teaching and learning initiatives at Georgetown University; and Dr. Gloria Rogers, Vice President for institutional research, planning and assessment at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

A variety of session formats will allow participants to learn from others as well as share their own ideas. The conference will begin on the afternoon of June 1st with a hands-on workshop on the ePortfolio software package.

The conference is designed for anyone in higher education interested in the creative uses of technology to enhance learning. Questions to be explored include:

  1. How can we redesign courses to facilitate recall of concepts?
  2. How do we help others make connections between disparate issues?
  3. What practice do we provide at applying principles to new situation.

The Conference registration fee is $190 per person. Two or more participants from a single school each pay a reduced rate of $150. For additional information, please call Joan Huvane, Dept. of Economics, 203-254-4000, ext. 2291.
