Lead Free Families presents free home renovation workshops for property owners, contractors and parents

Bridgeport property owners, contractors, painters and parents are invited to attend one of two free Home Renovation Workshops on Wednesday, June 16. The first workshop will be held at the East End Community Council, 1149 Stratford Ave., from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A second workshop will be held at Gethsemane Deliverance Church, 1589 Stratford Ave., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Ana Chambers, MPH, from the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program will conduct the workshop, focusing on how to safely repair, renovate or paint a home that may have lead paint.

The most common source of lead is lead paint in older homes. Repair and renovation of homes can disturb paint, releasing paint chips and lead dust into the environment. Repairs, renovations and paint removal in homes with lead paint needs to be done safely, to reduce exposure to the workers and families living in the homes. Clean-up of the area when work is completed is especially important.

The Home Renovation Workshops are made possible by the support of the Connecticut Department of Health Childhood Lead Poisoning in partnership with Fairfield University's School of Nursing, East End Community Council, and the Bridgeport Health Department. For more information or to register for the workshops please call (203) 335-6751.
