Gallery director offers insights on Russian avant-garde design at the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery at Fairfield University | Press Releases

Diana Mille, Ph.D., director of the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery at Fairfield University, will present "Russian Avant-Garde: Costume and Stage Design" on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 12:30 p.m. The one-hour talk, the third of four lectures on art from different regions of the world this season, takes place in the gallery located in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

In her lecture, Dr. Mille will consider the groundbreaking development of Russian stage and costume design from 1913 through 1935. Art of the pre-Bolshevik theater and works by Russian émigré artists who designed sets and costumes for many Western European and American productions will be featured.

Those attending the lecture will also be able to view the gallery's current exhibit "A World of Stage: Russian Costume and Stage Design from the George Riabov Collection of Russian Art," a dazzling array of designs from the Rutgers University-based collection. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, runs through Sunday, March 21. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

The last Director's Choice, "Wisdom and Compassion: The Sacred Art of Tibet," will take place Wednesday, April 28, at 12:30 p.m.
