"Dangerous Romance on the Radio" debuts at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts | Press Releases

Even love can be perilous in "Dangerous Romance on the Air," the next series of live radio dramas at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The three performances take place Friday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 14, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Quick Center's Wien Experimental Theater.

Directed by Daniel Smith of New Haven, the evening begins with "Too Perfect Alibi," an episode of the vintage drama "Suspense." In this installment, a man may have killed another man over the affections of a certain lady. The question is: Will he be sentenced or is his alibi too good?

In "Man in the Middle," an episode of the popular "Lights Out!" series, the audience can hear what the main character is saying - and what he's thinking. The fact that he's having an affair - and that "Lights Out" was a horror show - make for some interesting conversation.

In the popular series "Box 13," Alan Ladd's newsman-turned-novelist Dan Holiday found new material through a newspaper ad reading, "ADVENTURES WANTED: Will go anywhere, do anything." In the episode "Blackmail," a femme fatale may give him a little more adventure than he bargained for.

The evening also includes an episode from "The Guiding Light," the 1940s soap opera that's still alive and kicking on television. Each drama features live sound effects, vintage commercials and a string trio playing music inspired by the original scores.

The cast includes: Smith, John Watson and Gary Cavello, all of New Haven; Cindy Haynes, of Fairfield; and sound effects expert Ted Powell, of Stratford.

The radio drama series concludes for 2003-04 with the ever-popular "War of the Worlds" on Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13. Smith will be back to the Quick Center on Sunday, Feb. 29, for the premiere performance of The Live Music Project, a conductor-less orchestra making its debut in the Kelley Theatre. The program includes Bach, Mozart and the world premiere of Smith's "Overture in A Minor." Smith and violinist Netta Hadari co-founded The Live Music Project in cooperation with the Quick Center.
