$5,000 to fund preservation assessment of special collections

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded Fairfield University a $5,000 grant for preservation assessment of special collections in their DiMenna-Nyselius Library, Congressman Christopher Shays (R-Bridgeport) announced today.

"Fairfield University is a wonderful institution in our community," Shays said. "I am grateful for the NEH's support, which will help FU preserve their history to share with the community and future generations of students."

"We are very excited to have won the NEH Preservation Assistance Grant, which will help us establish long-range goals for collecting and preserving university material in paper, audio-visual and digital form," said Elise Bochinski, Access Services Librarian and University Archivist. "Since we are a relatively young university, the time to create an effective and workable long-range plan for the archives is now, while most of our material is in good condition and can be preserved for future generations."

The award will enable the University to hire a conservation consultant who will assess the humanities collection, archives and special collections at the DiMenna-Nyselius Library and help create a long-range plan for their organization and preservation.

The NEH's Preservation Assistance Grants are designed to help small and mid-sized institutions improve their ability to preserve and care for their humanities collections.
