Fairfield University to host three-day conference on teaching with technology

In an effort to increase awareness and promote greater understanding of technology in the classroom, Fairfield University will host "Designing Effective Learning Models: Technology, Pedagogy & Course Redesign III," a three-day conference centered on the integration of technological and educational resources.

The conference is open to college-level educators interested in the advantages of utilizing technology within the classroom setting. One of the conference's major goals will be assessing the current effect of technology on the learning and teaching process.

"Past years' participants have shared creative and innovative ways they use technology to enhance the learning experience, and motivate students," said Janice Miles Dunn, director of Distance Education at University College at Fairfield University.

The conference, organized by Fairfield University Associate Professors of Economics Laurence A. Miners, Ph.D. and Kathryn A. Nantz, Ph.D., will give area educators an opportunity to engage in panel discussions, paper sessions, and project demonstrations. "The biggest benefit is to have different people from different disciplines and different schools gather and discuss their style of teaching and how they have incorporated technology into their classes," said Miners.

Ed Klonoski, executive director of the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium, and Kathleen Snyder, director of Curriculum Development for JesuitNET, will be the conference's keynote speakers. The event, sponsored by the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium, will begin with a registration session at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 and close with a wrap-up session on Thursday, June 12.

Those interested in attending should contact Dr. Miners at (203) 254-4000, ext. 2868 or via e-mail at miners@mail.fairfield.edu . Media inquiries should be made to Dana Ambrosini, Fairfield University's assistant director of media relations, at (203) 254-4000, ext. 2726.
