A trend or simply special? Three sets of twins in Fairfield University's freshman class | Press Releases

It may be a sign of the times with more multiple births occurring, but Fairfield University will welcome three sets of twins to the Class of 2007 on Sunday. Marielle and Rachel Bermingham from Holland, Penn., Christine and Samuel DeMarzo from Madison, N.J., and Jamieson and Heather Keiser from Bedford, N.Y., are the students who are going to college in pairs.

And they won't be alone. A check of university records reveals that this isn't all that unusual at Fairfield. There are six sets of twins and a set of triplets in the other three classes. "We are known as a friendly and family-oriented school," said Mark Reed, dean of students, "so we like to think that was instrumental in these students choosing Fairfield, but of course there are so many other factors as well. I think we are all a little surprised."

The Class of 2007 arrives on campus on Sunday, Aug. 31, and the trio of twins are planning to meet at noon at the campus bookstore in the John A. Barone Campus Center.
