"The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" to be staged at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts

Image: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe "The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" will be staged on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 1 and 3 p.m. in Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The show, appropriate for children in Grades 2-7, will be repeated on Monday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. as part of the Quick Center's outreach program, Schooldays Series. A study guide is available for teachers.

Staged by Theatreworks/USA, this enchanting musical is based on C. S. Lewis' adventure story about four children of war-torn England who accidentally enter the land of Narnia by climbing through a magic wardrobe. This strange place is ruled by an evil witch with an iron grasp and a heart of ice, thus making the winter last all year 'round. Although they seem unlikely saviors, the children are destined to fulfill an ancient prophecy by defeating the witch, returning the great Lion King Aslan to this throne, and bringing sunshine and peace to the realm.

Theatreworks/USA, founded in 1961, is America's foremost professional theater for young and family audiences. Its goal is to create imaginative and sophisticated shows that are educational, entertaining and thought-provoking. In 1996, the company was recognized by New York's theater community with the prestigious Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel awards for "35 years of providing quality entertainment to children."

Tickets for Sunday's production are $10, $8 for children; $5 for Monday's outreach program. Discounts are available for groups and birthday parties. The Outreach Program is funded in part by the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield and Schools in Partnership with Unilever H & PC.
