50 years later: Veteran to participate in commencement

Fifty years ago Raymond Parry of Fairfield was supposed to march in the Fairfield University procession at the school's very first commencement. He had completed all the requirements for his degree, but before the big day arrived, he was called up by the Navy and had to report for duty, missing this important event in his life.

Now 50 years later, Mr. Parry will don cap and gown and take part in the commencement procession he missed out on so long ago. He is one of 31 members of Fairfield's first "Golden Class," to take part in a Fairfield commencement. Fairfield University held its first commencement in 1951 with 223 graduates.
