Birgitta N. Schmid of Milford, Conn., honored with Harry Fishman Award in Sociology

Birgitta N. Schmid of Milford, Conn., was presented with the Harry Fishman Award in Sociology at Fairfield University's College of Arts & Sciences Awards Ceremony. The award is given annually to the sociology major with the highest academic achievement.

Birgitta was praised for being both a wonderful sociologist and an accomplished linguist. At Fairfield she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society, and into Alpha Mu Gamma, the national foreign language honor society, and Alpha Kappa Delta, the national sociology honor society.

Birgitta graduated magna cum laude on May 20 and plans to work as a social researcher while applying to Ph.D. programs in sociology next year.
