Fairfield University alumni will return to campus to share professional insight and career advice with fellow liberal arts majors.

The Humanities at Work Series, presented by the Humanities Institute of the College of Arts and Sciences, will host its annual alumni panel on humanities and careers on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the John A. Barone Campus Center Dogwood Room.
In addition to fielding questions from students, this year’s four featured panelists will discuss their transitions from college to career, and explain the profound impact their humanities education has had in helping them achieve their professional goals.
“Students primarily major in the humanities to satisfy an insatiable intellectual curiosity and a drive to comprehend the history, scale, and possibility of human experience,” said Nels Pearson, PhD, professor of English and director of the University’s Humanities Institute in the College of Arts and Sciences. “The story we often forget to tell is that en route to this lofty goal, students acquire irreplaceable skills of analysis, insight, problem-solving, creativity, and argumentation that give them distinct advantages and make them crucial contributors in a variety of professional scenarios.”
From a legal director at a nonprofit law firm to a project coordinator for an Ivy League university, this year’s panelists represent a wide breadth of careers and humanities majors including history, philosophy, English, and art. Alumni scheduled to present include Courtney Darts ’01, legal director for Pro Bono Partnership; Jason Mancini ’94, executive director of the Connecticut Humanities and co-founder of the Akomawt Educational Initiative; Carolyn Marino ‘11, program coordinator for Columbia University’s Committee on Global Thought; and Matt Pecoraro ’11, public policy associate for Judge Bajer Children’s Center.
A question-and-answer segment and an informal networking social will follow the panelists’ presentations. Light refreshments will be served.
The alumni panel on humanities and careers is presented by the Humanities at Work series and is sponsored by the Humanities Institute in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences’ School of Humanities.
