AJCU Arts and Sciences Deans Conference

Mission and the Liberal Arts in Our Current Moment

Fairfield University is pleased to host the AJCU Arts and Sciences Deans Conference, beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 9 and closing at noon on Saturday, October 11. Pre-conference sessions and a buffet lunch will be available on Thursday starting at noon.

Sessions will focus on how we can best elevate, support and serve our faculty, staff and students in a challenging environment for higher education and its economic landscape – all while engaging new intellectual and cultural questions in an era of rapid technological change.

We will feature two voices who will offer their perspectives and spark our conversation.

  • On Friday evening, we are happy to feature two voices from America Media: President and Editor-in-Chief Sam Sawyer, S.J., and Vatican Correspondent Colleen Dulle. These two will reflect on the reverberations of Jesuit education in our culture, as America Media – through podcasts, web content, and its flagship America Magazine -- seeks to address the world our graduates enter. 
  • On Saturday morning, we will reflect on the questions and observations our time together has raised, and then move into the concrete task of planning for next year’s gathering.
