This Privacy Policy describes Fairfield University’s (“Fairfield,” “our,” “us,” or “we”) policies regarding the treatment of Personal Information we collect about you when you visit our website at www.fairfield.edu (the “Site”), attend Fairfield University, apply for admission to or employment at Fairfield University, request information related to Fairfield University, or otherwise engage with us (collectively, the “Services”). “Personal Information” is non-public information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked to an individual. This Policy may be supplemented by other privacy notices, such as health or education-specific notices.

When you use our Services, you agree to our collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information about you as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not provide us with Personal Information we request, we may not be able to provide you with our Services or your experience with those Services may be impaired.

The Personal Information we collect generally includes: (1) Personal Information about you that is needed to provide our Services; and (2) Personal Information that assists us in marketing our Services. How Long We Retain Your Personal Information

If you would like to submit a privacy request regarding your Personal Information, you, or an authorized agent on your behalf, can email your request to privacy@fairfield.edu or complete this webform.

Once you submit your request, we will take commercially reasonable steps to verify your identity, including confirming certain information you provide against the information in our files about you (e.g., your email address, name, or phone number). Once we have verified your request, we will make good faith efforts to evaluate and act on your request, but there may be circumstances in which we might not grant your request. If we deny your request, we will tell you why unless we are prohibited from doing so by law.

Non-United States Residents

Please note that by using our Services, you will be sending information (including Personal Information) to the United States where our servers are located. We will hold and process your Personal Information in accordance with privacy laws in the United States and this Policy. Please note that privacy laws in the United States may not be the same as, and in some cases may be considered less protective than, privacy laws in other countries. We take reasonable steps to ensure that your Personal Information is treated securely and that no transfer of your Personal Information will take place to an organization or a country unless adequate controls are in place to safeguard your Personal Information.

Therefore, by providing your Personal Information, you consent to the use of your Personal Information as identified in this Policy and to the transfer of your Personal Information to the United States. Any transfer of EEA, EU, or UK consumer data to the United States is done according to the established Standard Contractual Clauses for international data transfers. Admissions and Financial Aid

We collect and use various kinds of Personal Information (e.g., contact information, demographic information, education history, testing history, personal information and history, health and medical information, employment history, financial information, and other Personal Information helpful for the purposes stated below) when you, or your children, apply for admission to Fairfield or to a program or course offered by us, and when you apply for financial aid, if available. The primary source of this Personal Information is the applicant’s submissions. We may solicit additional data, for example, from interviewers as part of the admissions process, if applicable, or from other available sources when we are looking for potential candidates for admission in connection with recruiting activities. The Personal Information collected by us, or on our behalf, during the admissions process are used for the primary purposes of considering the applicant’s candidacy for admission to the relevant school, program or course, evaluating the applicant’s eligibility for financial aid, if applicable, and, if the applicant is admitted and enrolled, facilitating their education (such as by sharing Personal Information with registrars and others in order to enable the applicant’s enrollment and participation in the Fairfield, program or course to which they have been admitted).

We process your Personal Information for the purposes described in the above paragraph and in the “Collection of Personal Information” section of this Policy, consistent with the legal bases recognized by the applicable law, which may include, for instance: to pursue our legitimate interests (for example, providing educational offerings and conducting admissions research); to process transactions requested by you and meet our contractual obligations (for example, to process your application for admission); as necessary for compliance with a legal obligation (for example, financial aid reporting); or on the basis of your consent, where applicable.

Current and Prospective Students

We collect and use various kinds of Personal Information (e.g., contact information, demographic information, biographic information, financial information education, and employment history, testing history, personal information and history, health and medical information, and other Personal Information helpful for the purposes stated below) when you attend, apply, or seek information on Fairfield or a program or course offered by us. We collect and process all types of Personal Information listed in the “Collection of Personal Information” section of this Policy about current and prospective students. The Personal Information collected by us, or on our behalf, during the admissions process or attendance at Fairfield is used for the primary purposes of considering your candidacy for admission and facilitating your education (such as by sharing Personal Information with registrars and others in order to enable your enrollment and participation in the Fairfield, program or course to which you have been admitted).

We process your Personal Information for the purposes described in the above paragraph and in the “Collection of Personal Information” section of this Policy, consistent with the legal bases recognized by applicable law, which may include, for instance: to pursue our legitimate interests (for example, providing educational offerings and evaluating admissions); to process transactions requested by you and meet our contractual obligations (for example, to process your application for admission); to provide you with medical or health services; as necessary for compliance with a legal obligation (for example, for reporting purposes); or on the basis of your consent, where applicable.

Alumni and Donors

We collect and use various kinds of Personal Information (e.g., contact information, demographic information, education history, employment history, payment information, contribution history, and other Personal Information helpful for the purposes stated below) about alumni, donors and prospective donors from a number of sources, including data you provide to us, for example, when you update your alumni or donor profile, connect with us on social media, complete a donation form, or register to attend Fairfield events. If you were a student or studied at Fairfield, some of your Personal Information is transferred from your student record into our alumni databases. The Personal Information collected by us, or on our behalf, is used for the primary purpose of providing you opportunities to engage with Fairfield, alumni, donors, prospective donors, and students through interactions, events, and your gifts or donations.

We process your Personal Information for the purposes described in the above paragraph and in the “Collection of Personal Information” section of this Policy, consistent with the legal bases recognized by the applicable law, which may include, for instance: to pursue our legitimate interests (for example, requesting gifts or donations); to process transactions requested by you and meet our contractual obligations (for example, registration for events or processing of donations); as necessary for compliance with a legal obligation (for example, to provide required tax information); or on the basis of your consent, where applicable.

Employees and Job Applicants

We collect your Personal Information (e.g., contact information, demographic information, education history, employment history, and other Personal Information helpful for the purposes stated below) when you apply to work for us. Further Personal Information collection occurs at hiring and throughout your relationship with us. The Personal Information collected by us, or on our behalf, is used for the primary purposes of evaluating employment applications, providing employment, legal compliance, and enabling employees to utilize our services.

We process your Personal Information for the purposes described in the above paragraph and in the “Collection of Personal Information” section of this Policy, consistent with the legal bases recognized by applicable law, which may include, for instance: to pursue our legitimate interests (for example, managing internal administrative tasks); to process transactions requested by you and meet our contractual obligations (for example, managing employment or other work relationships); as necessary for compliance with a legal obligation (for example, to provide required information to tax authorities); or on the basis of your consent, where applicable.
