FAIRFIELD, Conn. (November 17, 2017) — Fairfield University’s annual Lucy Katz “Person of the Year” Award has been presented to Carrie Robinson, Associate Director of Student and Multicultural Affairs. This recognition, given by the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, is given to a woman on campus who has made an outstanding contribution to women’s issues at Fairfield University.

In unanimously selecting Robinson for the award, the committee recognized her for her dedication to students and creating new initiatives and events to cultivate a diversity of viewpoints.

“She is 100% devoted to students, and has a seemingly effortless way of always keeping them at the center of any project,” said Anna Lawrence, PhD, Associate Professor of History and the Director of the Women, Gender, and Sexuality program. “Carrie works to develop students’ leadership and activism, by making their concerns the center of any initiative.”

Said Robinson: “I am truly humbled and honored to receive this award. I am not someone who does the work I do for recognition, I do it because this is my passion. When it comes to advocating for women’s issues and equality for all, it is important to be a voice for those who are silenced. This is an award I share with everyone who I have stood by as we have advocated for change on campus.”

Lucy Katz, a lawyer and professor, joined Fairfield University as an assistant professor of business law. She was one of two original co-coordinators of the Women’s Studies Program and served as chair of the Department of Management in the Charles F. Dolan School of Business. In 2005, she was appointed to hold the inaugural Robert C. Wright endowed chair in Business Law, Ethics and Dispute Resolution. She was a courageous defender of social justice, with a particular focus on women’s issues, and lived out that focus in her life and in her prodigious work.
