Judith Sloan and Warren Lehrer, author/artists of "Crossing the BLVD: Strangers, neighbors, aliens in a new America," will discuss their multimedia work in a lecture and Q&A at 6 p.m., Monday, November 5, at Fairfield University. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the DiMenna-Nyselius Library Multimedia Room.

As immigrant policy is hotly debated around the country in terms of national and cultural security, "Crossing the BLVD" presents the human stories of why immigrants and refugees have migrated to the U.S. and what their experiences have been since they came here, both before and after 9/11. Lehrer and Sloan will discuss their book, traveling exhibition, animations, audio CD and performance with photographs, sounds and stories and how this cross-platform project uses the tools of contemporary art to create a multimedia experience reflecting the changing face of America.

The New York Times called "Crossing the BLVD" "riveting stories about a new wave of immigrants to America." The project won the 2004 Brendan Gill Prize from the Municipal Art Society of New York.

The event is sponsored by Fairfield University's Studio Art Program in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts with support from The Humanities Institute in the College of Arts and Sciences.
