Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts

The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts continues its 2011-2012 Dance season with the renowned Koresh Dance Company performing at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011. A post-performance Question & Answer session with Ronen Koresh, the company's choreographer and artistic director and members of the company, will also take place on the Quick Center stage. Known for their powerful and physical stage presence, Koresh Dance Company, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been hailed as a vital force to both national and international stages. Their repertoire of work ranges from explosive and passionate to intimate and restrained. The Koresh style incorporates elements of jazz, modern, ballet and ethnic dance into a unique contemporary style. The company's original dance pieces break through boundaries of traditional choreography and offer audiences an exciting experience with performances that are as emotional as they are innovative.

Koresh Dance Company was founded in 1991 by Israeli-born choreographer and artistic director Ronen Koresh and his brother, executive director Alon Koresh. The company presents a repertory which includes over 60 works by Ronen Koresh as well as works by guest choreographers including Robert Battle, Donald Byrd and Itzik Galili.

For its Regina A. Quick Center appearance, Koresh Dance Company will be performing evolution , an evening-length original work choreographed by Ronen Koresh in 2009 (see them on YouTube ). "Language and art have remained essential to human nature throughout the ages," said Mr. Koresh. "The need for human expression is as universal as the need for replenishing ourselves through procreation. Expression is fundamental to the reasons for our existence, and to understand that expression in its purest form is to understand ourselves."

The company performs at festivals and performing arts centers around the country and has performed internationally, with tours that included Turkey, South Korea and Israel.
