Members of the public are invited to take a look back at the not-so-distant past through a course on "Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich," offered by University College at Fairfield University. The course, which will be held on Fairfield University's campus, will run on Tuesdays from Sept. 30 through Nov. 4 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The course examines the origins of Nazism in German history and the rise of Adolf Hitler as its Fuhrer. It considers daily life in the Third Reich, the steps to World War II, the Holocaust and its ramifications, and the collapse of the Nazi regime. Films and memorabilia of the period augment lectures and discussions.
The course will explore the ways in which the state takes over individual lives, said Assistant Professor Emeritus Paul Davis, who joined the Fairfield University faculty in 1963.
The course will be intriguing for history buffs and members of the general public alike, said Davis, who noted that in the past, senior citizens that were children during World War II find it particularly interesting to look back on that period in history through his class.
"By understanding the past, we can anticipate the future," he said.
